The Florida State Fair is an annual highlight, and I recently had the most incredible time exploring everything it has to offer! If you're planning a visit, you absolutely have to prepare for a day (or night!) full of excitement, delicious food, and unforgettable memories. Let's talk about the rides first! There’s truly something for everyone, whether you’re a thrill-seeker or prefer something a bit more mellow. For adrenaline junkies, the fair always brings out some fantastic roller coasters that twist and turn, giving you that exhilarating rush. I always look forward to seeing what new, impressive rides they have, but classics like the towering Ferris wheel are a must-do for the incredible views of the entire fairgrounds, especially at night when all the lights sparkle. Don't forget to check out the family-friendly options too – the carousel is perfect for younger kids and offers a nostalgic charm that even adults can appreciate. While I didn't personally spot a 'Kraken ride' on my last visit, the fair often features a rotating selection of exhilarating attractions, so keep an eye out for any new monster-themed or high-speed rides that pop up! Beyond the spins and drops, the games are a huge part of the fair experience. From classic ring toss and balloon darts to more challenging skill games, there’s endless fun to be had trying to win that giant plushie. My strategy? Pick a game you genuinely enjoy, and don't be afraid to try a few times. Sometimes it's less about winning and more about the laughter and shared moments with friends or family. And oh, the food! This is where the Florida State Fair truly shines. You come for the rides, but you stay for the incredible array of fair food. You absolutely cannot leave without trying the classic cotton candy – it’s fluffy, sweet, and just screams "fair." For something savory, the cheese steak sandwiches are incredibly satisfying, packed with flavor. I also loved grabbing a fresh gyro, which felt like a mini culinary adventure. Don't forget the fresh-squeezed lemonade to wash it all down, or maybe a caramel apple for a sweet and tart treat. Every year, I discover a new favorite, so be adventurous! To make your visit as smooth as possible, here are a few extra tips. While the entrance fees range from $11-$16 (with military and children under 6 often getting in free), consider getting an armband for the rides if you plan on going on multiple attractions. The $35-$45 armband can be a great value. Check the Florida State Fairgrounds website for specific opening hours and any special events or discounts. I always recommend going earlier in the day to beat some of the crowds, or later in the evening to experience the magical lights, especially around the Ferris wheel.
