This is partial of the beauty and beast retelling. I didn’t finish the last 2 because they were in another POV that I just didn’t care for.
Order:
1. A Ruin of Roses
2. A Throne of Ruin
3. A Kingdom of Ruin
4. A Queen of Ruin
So honestly, I didn’t realize this was a beauty and the beast retelling until I was telling my friend about the books. This series is SUPER SPICY. 🥵
But this first starts out with Finley’s POV and then gradually other POVs were added. There is a curse that was placed by the demon king when Finley was young, she grew up learning to make teas essentially to help people live. But in order to get the leaves from the particular plant, she had to go into the forbidden forest..the forbidden forest is guarded by THE BEAST.
Don’t come for me because I didn’t realize it was a beauty and the beast retelling. There is a tower that she is locked in by the beast, the beast is cursed, Hadriel who I believe is just a funnier version of Cogsworth, then you have the lady’s maid - Leala which I’m assuming is Mrs. Potts.
It’s definitely good. But I feel like the 4th book took me so long to read, it was definitely needed to “finish the war” but it was just so long and drawn out.
... Read moreIf you're anything like me, you're constantly on the hunt for a book that truly grabs you and doesn't let go. Recently, I dove headfirst into K.F. Breene's 'Ruin' series, starting with 'A Ruin of Roses,' and let me tell you, it delivered big time! What I discovered was a truly dark and spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling that hit all the right notes for me.
First off, let's talk about the 'spicy' aspect because that's often what we're really searching for, right? This series doesn't shy away from mature themes and intense passion. The romance between Finley and the Beast builds with a delicious tension that makes those spicy scenes incredibly impactful. It's not just gratuitous; it deepens their connection and highlights the raw, untamed nature of their bond, which is something I personally adore in dark fantasy romance. If you're looking for a fairytale reimagining that explores adult relationships with heat and depth, this series absolutely delivers.
Then there's the 'dark aesthetic.' The author masterfully weaves a world that feels both enchanting and perilous. The concept of a demon king's curse, the forbidden forest guarded by the Beast, and the constant threat hanging over Finley's life creates a truly gothic and immersive atmosphere. It’s not just a surface-level darkness; it’s ingrained in the magic system and the character's motivations. The quote I saw on one of the book covers, 'You cannot appreciate the light if you don't spend any time in the darkness,' perfectly encapsulates the essence of this series. It’s about finding beauty and love amidst despair and danger, which is a powerful narrative thread.
Now, regarding the 'betrothed to a fox demon' query – while the 'Ruin' series doesn't feature a literal fox demon, it absolutely taps into that compelling 'fated mate' or 'bound to a non-human entity' trope that makes such fantasies so captivating. Finley's predicament, tied to the Beast through a curse and destiny, evokes a similar sense of an intense, inescapable bond. For those who love the idea of a powerful, mysterious, and somewhat dangerous partner, whether it's a Beast, a demon, or a magical creature, this series will resonate deeply. The Beast in this story is complex, dangerous, and utterly captivating, embodying the allure of a dark, supernatural hero.
Overall, the 'Ruin' series by K.F. Breene is a must-read if you're craving a rich, dark, and super spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling. It's got the action, the magic, the undeniable chemistry, and a world that pulls you in from the first page. If you enjoyed 'A Ruin of Roses,' I highly recommend continuing the journey through 'A Throne of Ruin,' 'A Kingdom of Ruin,' and 'A Queen of Ruin' for a truly immersive dark fantasy experience.
