Beauty and the Beast Retelling
⭐️Overall rating: 3/5
Mountains Made of Glass is a dual POV story doing a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The story felt rushed, and I think had the author made the story a bit longer, that would’ve been solved. Basically, if you take Beauty and the Beast and made it spicy, you’d get close to this story.
There were witty characters, characters to love and characters to hate. Magic stuff was happening, fairies were there, and not everybody was as nice as they may have initially seemed.
At this point, I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a series of retellings. If it is, I’m not in a rush to pick up the next one.

Mountains Made of Glass takes the beloved tale of Beauty and the Beast and turns it on its head, introducing a dark fantasy twist that includes fae, magic, and revenge plots. The story captivates with its dual POV format, allowing readers to glimpse the minds of various characters. Notably, there’s a blend of lighthearted banter among side characters that enhances the narrative's depth. The overall tone balances between whimsy and the darker themes of transformation and friendship, making it relatable while exploring the complexities of personality. While the pacing has been noted as a concern, with critics suggesting a longer format may have deepened the character development, the elements of intrigue and unexpected moments keep readers engaged. The nuanced portrayal of friendships and rivalries reflects a multifaceted exploration of human emotions, partially inspired by familiar fairy tale motifs. Readers familiar with other works in the Touch of Darkness series by Scarlett St. Clair will find themselves both challenged and entertained by this retelling, which successfully marries traditional lore with modern storytelling techniques, beckoning fans of the genre to delve into its pages.
