Rejected typography designs

2024/11/29 Edited to

... Read moreWhen you hear an artist's name like Ashley Alisha, what immediately comes to mind? Beyond her music, it's often a visual 'sign' – a logo, an album cover, or a distinct typographic style – that helps solidify her brand in our minds. As a fellow creative, I find the journey of crafting an artist's visual identity absolutely fascinating. It's not just about picking a pretty font; it's about finding that unique 'sign' that resonates with their sound and connects with their audience. The original post gave us a sneak peek into some rejected typography designs for Ashley Alisha’s 'Stare' album, and it really highlights the depth of this creative process. Think about it: each of those designs, from the elegant serif options to the more stylized lowercase fonts with integrated stars or swoosh elements, was an attempt to capture the essence of 'Stare' and Ashley Alisha herself. The metallic blue/silver tones and even the subtle 3D effects mentioned in the image descriptions show how much thought goes into every detail. These aren't just letters; they are potential visual 'signs' that could define an entire era for an artist. So, why would such well-executed designs be rejected? This is where the art of branding truly comes into play. Sometimes a design, while beautiful on its own, might not perfectly align with the album's emotional core, or perhaps it doesn't stand out enough to become Ashley Alisha's truly distinctive visual 'sign'. Maybe one design felt too aggressive, another too soft, or perhaps it simply didn't feel 'Ashley Alisha' enough. The goal is always to create something iconic, something that listeners will instantly associate with her. It's a delicate balance of aesthetics, market trends, and the artist's personal vision. From my perspective as a designer, crafting an artist's 'sign' involves a lot of exploration. We often start with mood boards, diving deep into the album's themes, lyrics, and overall vibe. For 'Stare', the chosen visual elements would need to evoke that specific feeling. Imagine trying out different weights, kerning, and decorative elements – like those stars or swooshes – to see how they alter the perception of the word 'Stare' itself. Do they make it feel mysterious? Bold? Vulnerable? The glossy, reflective finishes and 3D effects described in the OCR also play a huge role in adding depth and character, turning simple text into a powerful visual statement. Ultimately, the search for the perfect visual 'sign' is an iterative process of trial and error. It requires collaboration, intuition, and a keen understanding of both design principles and the artist’s unique voice. Seeing these rejected designs for Ashley Alisha’s 'Stare' isn't a sign of failure; it's a testament to the dedication involved in finding that one, powerful visual mark that will represent her music and become her enduring 'sign' to the world. It makes you wonder about the final design and how it eventually came to be the chosen emblem for such an important piece of work!
