Matthew 6:25-34 LSB—

"'For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not worth much more than they? And which of you by worrying can add a single cubit to his life span? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

... Read moreReading Matthew 6:25-34 always hits home for me. In a world full of uncertainties, it's so easy to get caught up in worrying about 'what ifs.' We fret about our next meal, our finances, or what the future holds. And you know what? It's okay to be worried sometimes. My own journey has taught me that acknowledging that feeling is a first step, because it often shows we care deeply about something. But then, Jesus gently reminds us: Look at the birds of the air! They don't plant or harvest, yet our heavenly Father feeds them. And the lilies of the field, they don't toil or spin, yet even King Solomon in all his glory wasn't dressed as beautifully as one of them. If God cares for creation in such intricate ways, how much more will He care for us, His beloved children? This perspective shift is profound. It's not about being irresponsible or ignoring challenges, but about understanding where our ultimate provision comes from. I've found that one of the most powerful antidotes to worry is prayer. The message 'pray more than you worry' resonates deeply with me. When I catch myself spiraling into anxiety about something – whether it’s 'what will we eat?' or 'what will I wear?' or bigger life decisions – I try to intentionally turn that worry into a prayer. Instead of just replaying the fear in my mind, I hand it over to God. It’s not always easy, but it’s a practice that strengthens my faith. It’s like bringing that 'fearful energy' into His presence, knowing He's listening. The passage also encourages us to 'seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.' This isn't just a religious phrase; it's a call to reorder our priorities. For me, it means asking: 'Am I focusing on what truly matters to God today?' Am I pursuing justice, loving others, and trying to live righteously? When my focus shifts from my own anxieties to His purposes, I often find that those 'all these things' (food, clothing, etc.) really do get added. It's not magic, but a re-alignment of perspective and often, practical solutions emerge. And that line, 'do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.' Wow. That's a daily challenge! I used to spend so much energy worrying about what might happen next week or next month. But God promises to be with us no matter what we are going through, today and tomorrow. Jesus loves you so much that He showed 'unconditional love by going to the cross.' This profound love is our foundation. It helps me focus on today, on the blessings and challenges of this moment, rather than borrowing trouble from a future that hasn't arrived yet. So, when worries like 'don't think about it too much' creep in, I remember to cast my cares on Him. Stay blessed, y'all, and remember, God loves you and knows your needs more than you can imagine.
