My friend and made a last minutes decision to go to Rome . With plans , no hotel we just got on the flight and said we’ll figure it out when we get there which we did and it was so nice , people were so nice the food was a bit underwhelming for me especially the pasta , I was looking forward for the pasta and it disappointed me. But if you ever thinking about a last minute trip just do it even if you have to go alone . #embracevulnerability #lemon8challenge #romeitaly #rome

... Read moreLanding in Rome without a solid plan might sound daunting, but trust me, it’s actually one of the most liberating ways to experience the Eternal City! My spontaneous trip taught me that sometimes, the best 'things to do' aren't meticulously scheduled; they're found while simply letting the city unfold around you. This approach naturally lends itself to discovering many *cheap things to do in Rome*. One of my absolute favorite Rome activities was simply walking. Seriously, just pick a comfortable pair of shoes and a direction, and go! You'll literally stumble upon ancient ruins seemingly around every corner, charming little piazzas where locals chat over coffee, and hidden gelato shops that serve up incredible flavors. I remember spending hours just exploring the labyrinthine streets of Trastevere, soaking in its bohemian atmosphere, or discovering panoramic viewpoints that offered breathtaking vistas of the city at sunset. It felt authentic, deeply immersive, and completely free – a true highlight of *what to do in Rome*. Speaking of food, I totally empathize with the pasta disappointment mentioned earlier! It can definitely be a hit or miss, especially in very touristy areas. My biggest tip for finding the best things to do in Rome for your taste buds is to venture slightly off the main thoroughfares. Look for smaller, family-run trattorias where menus might be handwritten and filled with Roman dialect. Don't be afraid to ask locals for recommendations – they know the real gems! Beyond just pasta, make sure to try specific Roman dishes like Cacio e Pepe (it's simple but divine when done right!), Amatriciana, or Carbonara. Also, embracing street food like supplì (fried rice balls) or pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice) can be incredibly delicious, satisfying, and budget-friendly activities. And after a long day of exploring, finding a cozy spot to enjoy a refreshing drink, perhaps even a virgin mojito or colada like the one I enjoyed, is pure bliss. It’s all part of embracing the moment and the local rhythm. For specific *Rome activities*, even without a detailed itinerary, you can easily visit many iconic spots. The Pantheon's majestic interior is free to enter and absolutely awe-inspiring. Taking in the grandeur of the Colosseum and Roman Forum from outside (or just getting a glimpse from a panoramic viewpoint near the Altare della Patria) doesn't cost a thing and offers incredible photo opportunities. Throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain is a classic, charming tradition, promising a return to Rome, and just sitting on the Spanish Steps to people-watch is an experience in itself. These are quintessential Rome things to do that don't require pre-booking or a hefty budget. And for those looking for a truly unique souvenir or way to remember their trip, getting a small, meaningful 'When in Rome' tattoo could be a fun, spontaneous idea – a permanent reminder to embrace new experiences! It’s about embodying the spirit of the place. Ultimately, what to do in Rome is largely up to you and your mood. Whether you're seeking ancient history, vibrant street life, or just a delicious espresso, Rome offers it all. Don't let the lack of a plan deter you; sometimes the best memories are made when you let the city guide you and simply embrace the adventure.
