#lemon8diarychallenge #booktok #thenightingale #kristinhannah #takemyhand #reading #bookreview ⭐️Overall rating: /5: 5/5 for both

My August reads

📖 Name of the Books: Take my hand & The Nightingale

📄 Plot: Two sisters in WW2 France face unimaginable challenges | A family planning clinic nurse working in Alabama in 1972 providing birth control to underserved communities and in so discovering legal horrors that were happening there

📖 Genre: Historical fiction

📄 My Favorite Quotes: “Although i refused to believe there was such thing as an unwanted child, there was such thing as an unwanted pregnancy- and i could speak to that..” - take my hand

“it doesn’t hurt, it’s just my body. They can’t touch my soul.” - the nightgale

💭 My Thoughts: absolutely incredible, both left me sleepless and over consumed by the real stories told in these novels. Without spoiling anything I just want to recommend these two books to anyone, but be prepared to cry and have no idea what book to read after this emotional rollercoaster

... Read moreIf you've ever picked up a historical fiction novel, you know the unique way it can transport you. For me, connecting with stories set in the past isn't just about learning history; it's about understanding the human spirit in challenging times. When I dive into books like 'The Nightingale' by Kristin Hannah or 'Take My Hand' by Dolen Perkins-Valdez, I'm not just reading words on a page – I'm experiencing echoes of lives lived, struggles endured, and triumphs won. These aren't just 'fiction' books; they're immersive journeys that leave a lasting impact long after the last page is turned. What I particularly love about historical fiction, especially the ones that 'wreck' you emotionally, is their ability to build empathy. Reading about two sisters in WWII France in 'The Nightingale' makes you reflect on resilience and courage in the face of unimaginable adversity. Similarly, witnessing the injustices faced by underserved communities in 1970s Alabama through 'Take My Hand' brings to light critical social issues and the quiet strength of those fighting for change. Authors like Kristin Hannah and Dolen Perkins-Valdez have a remarkable talent for weaving compelling narratives around pivotal historical moments, making them feel incredibly personal and relevant even today. It’s almost like you’re right there with the characters, feeling their joys and sorrows. Finding authors who can do this so profoundly is a true gift for any avid reader looking for more than just a story. If you're looking to dive into equally impactful reads, I've found a few strategies that help. First, pay attention to 'booktok' recommendations – that's often where I discover hidden gems! Also, when authors like Kristin Hannah or Dolen Perkins-Valdez resonate with you, explore their other works or similar authors known for their historical depth and emotional storytelling. Consider books set in specific historical periods or tackling themes of resilience, social justice, or survival; these often guarantee a powerful experience. And a personal tip: when you pick up a book like 'The Nightingale' or 'Take My Hand,' be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. I often keep a 'palate cleanser' read ready for after, perhaps a light romance or a cozy mystery, just to help ease back into reality after such an intense journey! These 'August' reads might have been tough, but they were so worth it. They remind me why I love getting lost in a good book, even when it leaves me a little heartbroken but ultimately richer for the experience.
