Riding my FAVE horse
Riding a highly ranked horse in my barn has been an amazing experience that truly deepened my passion for equestrian sports. Most of his life has been focused on dressage, which demands precise control, rhythm, and harmony between horse and rider. It was fascinating to observe how well-trained he is in maintaining extended trots and smooth canters, which are fundamental in dressage. Transitioning this talented horse into showjumping introduced new challenges. Since he didn’t have much experience jumping, it required patience and gentle encouragement to build his confidence over fences. I learned that understanding a horse’s background is crucial when exploring new disciplines. For instance, while he occasionally missed jumps at first, his determination allowed him to clear most obstacles eventually. Equine welfare is always paramount during training. I’m very mindful to avoid any harsh methods, as promoting kindness helps build trust and willingness in horses. The hashtag #horseabuse reminded me how important it is to advocate for compassionate horsemanship. Throughout rides, from walking to trot to canter, I noticed how his movements showcased discipline and expression, essential in dressage, yet showing promise in showjumping. Experiencing these stages firsthand helped me appreciate the dedication involved in training a horse across varied equestrian sports. For riders considering similar cross-discipline training, it’s important to progress at the horse’s pace, balancing work and rest, and celebrating small victories. This journey highlighted for me not only technical riding skills but also the bond fostered through consistent, respectful care and shared accomplishments with my favorite horse.
