Things I wish I knew before I started horse riding
Beginning horse riding can be an exhilarating yet challenging experience. One important tip is to bring someone along to film your lessons. This allows you to review your posture and technique later, helping you improve faster. Contrary to popular belief, not every ride will be perfect; some days you and the horse just won’t sync as well, and that’s completely normal. Never underestimate an older horse’s capabilities and personality—they often have more experience and can be very wise teachers. It’s vital to remember that you are a team, not a machine; progress takes time, patience, and consistent effort. Building relationships with fellow riders is also key, but be aware that not everyone will be your close friend, and that’s okay. Finally, always be yourself in the stable and on the field. Trying to imitate others will only hinder your growth and enjoyment in horse riding. By keeping these insights in mind, new riders can manage expectations, improve their learning process, and enjoy the journey of horse riding more fully.
