Rating Jobs I’ve had

Most of the jobs I’ve had have been on campus but I’ve had a few and I’ve experienced a lot of growth as I’ve gone through each. I’m currently working in campus events and the skills you learn are great and give you a lot for future resumes for after graduation. If I didn’t care about life after college I would probably be a nanny right now tho 😂

... Read moreWe've all had those jobs that felt like just a stepping stone, right? But what if I told you every single one of those experiences, even the ones you might not think much of, was actually building a powerful toolkit for your future career? It's all about understanding and leveraging 'transferable skills' – those valuable abilities that aren't tied to one specific role but can be applied across countless industries and situations. So, what exactly are transferable skills? Simply put, they are the versatile talents and proficiencies you develop in one area that can be successfully utilized in another. Think beyond the obvious job descriptions. For instance, being a Gym Worker might seem straightforward, but it likely involves customer service, problem-solving (like fixing a jammed machine or mediating a dispute), and maintaining a clean, safe environment. These are all highly sought-after skills in many professional settings. Identifying these skills in your own work history is a game-changer for your resume and future job applications. Let's take some examples: If you've worked in Campus Events, you're probably a pro at organization, communication, and adaptability. You've learned to manage timelines, coordinate with various departments, handle unexpected issues on the fly, and ensure everything runs smoothly. These are critical for project management, marketing, or even administrative roles. Even a role like House Keeping, often underestimated, hones incredible attention to detail, efficiency, time management, and the ability to work independently. These skills are gold in fields requiring meticulousness, such as quality control, data entry, or administrative support. And for anyone who's spent time as a Nanny, you know it's a goldmine of soft skills. Patience, empathy, negotiation, creative problem-solving, and managing multiple priorities simultaneously are just a few. These human-centric skills are invaluable in leadership, customer relations, education, and healthcare. The beauty of transferable skills is that they prove your adaptability and potential to future employers. They show that even if your past roles aren't directly related to the job you're applying for, you possess the foundational abilities to learn quickly and contribute effectively. This is especially true when navigating career changes or applying for entry-level positions where direct experience might be limited. When you're updating your resume or preparing for an interview, don't just list your job duties. Instead, think about the skills you developed and how they align with the requirements of your target role. For example, instead of saying "cleaned facilities," you could say "demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and efficiency in maintaining facility standards." Instead of "watched kids," try "managed complex schedules and fostered a nurturing environment, developing strong communication and problem-solving skills." By framing your experiences this way, you turn every past job into a powerful asset, showcasing your growth and readiness for new challenges. It's about telling your unique career story through the lens of the valuable skills you've gained, making you an irresistible candidate.
