I spent ages looking for tutorial videos and ended up making them mostly from EVA foam, which was a completely new experience for me. Cutting, shaping, gluing, and then painting them to get that worn, metallic effect was surprisingly therapeutic, but definitely a multi-day affair. I wanted them to look powerful but also battle-scarred, just like Vi herself. But beyond the costume pieces, it was about embodying her character. For me, Vi's story, particularly her tumultuous relationship with Jinx, is the absolute heart of Arcane. Remembering intense scenes, especially those moments where you see 'jinx when vi was having her breakup crashout,' really helped me get into character. That specific dynamic captures so much pain, love, and betrayal all at once – it's incredibly complex and emotionally charged. I tried to channel that raw intensity into my poses and expressions, focusing on a mix of defiance and underlying sorrow. It's not just about wearing the costume; it's about feeling the character's emotions, understanding their struggles, and telling their story through your portrayal. I learned so much during this whole process, not just about crafting, but about connecting with a character on a deeper level. One tip I'd absolutely give to anyone wanting to cosplay characters with intricate props is to start early and be incredibly patient with yourself. Don't be afraid to experiment with different materials and techniques; sometimes the unexpected solution works best. Also, never underestimate the power of good makeup! For Vi, I focused on creating a strong, slightly angular brow and using a bit of contouring to give that tough, street-smart look she carries. Adding subtle bruises or dirt effects can also really elevate the realism of a fighter character like her. What I love most about cosplay is the incredible community aspect.
