Things that I hate about lemon8

2024/12/10 Edited to

... Read moreIt's been on my mind a lot lately, seeing how platforms like Lemon8 can sometimes inadvertently dilute the very essence of what makes alternative subcultures so special. I've noticed a trend where genuine movements, rich with history, music, and specific ideologies, are often reduced to mere aesthetics or trendy fashion statements. This really bothers me, especially when it comes to communities like the goth subculture. For many of us, goth isn't just about wearing black or a certain style of makeup; it's deeply rooted in music, literature, and a unique worldview. Yet, on social media, you often see posts labeled 'goth room inspo' or 'alt outfit ideas' that completely miss the mark. They might feature items that are clearly from fast fashion brands, presented without any understanding of the subculture's anti-consumerist or DIY ethos. This isn't just a misrepresentation; it's actively watering down the true meaning for new people who are genuinely interested in learning. I've also seen a lot of content that merges various alt subcultures into one generic 'aesthetic,' losing the distinct identities of punk, emo, cybergoth, and more. When everything becomes just an 'aesthetic,' it loses its power to challenge norms and offer a sense of belonging to individuals who don't fit into mainstream society. It feels like these platforms, while intending to be inclusive, sometimes inadvertently pave the way for commercial gain by turning unique identities into marketable trends. Thinking about what might be considered the 'opposite of goth' isn't just about contrasting styles; it's about contrasting philosophies. The commercialized, fleeting trends promoted by fast fashion and superficial aesthetics on social media often stand in stark contrast to the depth, longevity, and often anti-establishment roots of authentic subcultures. Goth, for instance, emphasizes individuality, artistic expression, and a critique of mainstream conformity. Its 'opposite' isn't just bright colors; it's thoughtless consumption and a lack of substance, which is exactly what happens when a subculture is reduced to just a visual trend. What I hope to see more of is content that educates and celebrates the depth of these subcultures. Imagine posts that truly explore the history of goth music, the philosophical underpinnings of alternative movements, or guides on where to find ethically sourced or independent creators instead of just pushing fast fashion links. It’s about understanding that being 'alt' or 'goth' is more than just an image; it's a lifestyle and a community. When we allow these subcultures to be reduced to just an aesthetic, we risk losing the authentic voices and perspectives that make them so valuable. I believe we, as users, have a role in pushing for more thoughtful and respectful content that honors the true spirit of these communities.

small things that increase feminine energy 💋
Sometimes I struggle with feeling feminine. When I younger I use to think femininity had to do with long hair, soft features, super girly clothes, being flirty & at the time I had none of that. I was a “TomBoy” and when I exited that stage of my life I felt like I was in limbo. But naturally As

things I’m starting to hate about lemon8
I can’t be the only one who’s seen some weird stuff on here lately. I get that every social media site has stuff like this, but idk why it seems like my feed is full of fake people/accounts that say weird things. Don’t get me started on the messages part. I either get sugar daddies or fake accounts

what do guys actually find attractive? of course, they like the physical, outward facing things, but those things might not matter as much as you think. but what does matter? i ask my husband and here’s what he said: ➡️ genuine compliments guys like to feel attractive just as much as girl

why is lemon8 so negative??
Awhile ago I made a post about how I loved the inclusivity & kindness of the app. It’s definitely not now 🤦‍♀️ It’s like with the proposed Tik Tok ban, all the negative & rude people came to lemon8 & are leaving hateful comments. It’s annoying that this app’s positivity was destroyed

The image features the title "HOW TO GET OUT OF A SLUMP" in red text. It shows a hand holding a smartphone with a blank screen and a bed with clothes on it, all against a light pink background with red accents.
This image defines a "slump" as having no motivation despite tasks, listing symptoms like excessive phone usage, inability to get out of bed, feeling groggy, and being unable to complete tasks. It asks "so.. how do we get out of it?" with a swipe prompt.
The image presents five tactics to overcome a slump: the 5-second rule, the 5-minutes rule, using past mistreatment as motivation, romanticizing small tasks, and watching motivational videos. It notes these are personal tips, not guaranteed fixes.
