Dating in 2025…. 28 & Single Mom

Is courting literally the worst thing in the world?
I was told from getting to know a 31 year old man less than 24 hrs… That I have too many rules & standards for him to want to continue to get to know me.
👀…. MIND YOU….
He wanted my address immediately and I said NO!
Because,
1. No means No
2. If you want to see me you ask a woman on a date. Doesn’t have to be flashy or big but, a date.
3. This is my son’s home, I barely have family over. Why would I let a random man in my house🙄. They forget Stranger Danger?
4. I SAID NO. Which deserves no explanation.
I calmly told him to have a blessed one and that it would go no further.
Dating for me throughout my whole 20s it seems like, has been a NIGHTMARE!
Questions: Would you have given him your address?
Is courting properly so bad?
Is having high standards & rules for what I expect (which is bare minimum), such a hard/bad thing? Let me know… 😘
Dating as a single mom in 2025 comes with its unique challenges and realities. Many women in similar situations find that maintaining personal boundaries, like refusing to give out their home address early on, is not only wise but necessary — especially when children are involved. The concept of "Stranger Danger" isn't outdated; it's a practical reminder of the importance of safety and trust-building before allowing someone new into your personal space. Having high standards and clear rules in dating isn't about being difficult; it's about self-respect and protecting your emotional and physical well-being. In fact, many people find that setting these boundaries early on helps filter out those who aren't serious or respectful, ultimately leading to healthier and more meaningful connections. Courting — the idea of taking time to get to know someone properly before rushing into intimacy or sharing private information — remains a valuable practice. It encourages communication, patience, and mutual respect, which are the foundations of lasting relationships. While some may see this as old-fashioned or inconvenient, especially in today's fast-paced dating culture, it often helps single moms avoid unnecessary complications and stress. It's also common for single moms to encounter partners who feel overwhelmed or intimidated by their standards, but it's essential to remember that unwillingness to respect boundaries can be a red flag. Trust should never be rushed, and "No means No" is a principle that deserves absolute respect without excuses. Ultimately, dating is a personal journey, and each individual can decide what standards and boundaries matter most to them. Sharing experiences like these can empower others to understand that having boundaries and expecting respect is not just acceptable but vital in today's dating scene, especially for single parents navigating love and family life simultaneously.

As a fellow single mom, I totally get it! Your boundaries are valid, especially with a son. No means no, period.
