What to do in NYC in a cold day

2025/1/29 Edited to

... Read moreWhen the New York City chill sets in, the last thing you want is to be stuck inside feeling bored. Luckily, I've found some absolutely fantastic indoor activities that turn a cold day into an exciting adventure! If you're wondering what to do in NYC when it's cold, let me share some of my personal favorite discoveries that are perfect for beating the winter blues. First up, getting creative is a wonderful way to spend a chilly afternoon. I recently visited Happy Medium for pottery painting, and it was such a delightful experience. You get to pick out your ceramic piece, from mugs to plates or little figurines, and then unleash your inner artist with their wide array of paints and tools. It’s incredibly relaxing, and at the end, you have a beautiful, personalized souvenir to take home (after they glaze and fire it for you, of course!). It’s perfect for a solo creative escape, a fun date, or a giggle-filled outing with friends. Another sensory and unique activity I absolutely loved was custom candle making at Lanterne Candle Lab in Chinatown. The ambiance alone is worth the visit – cozy and inviting. You get to choose from an incredible selection of essential oils and fragrances to blend your perfect custom scent, then carefully pour your own candle. I made a "Lavender Cashmere" scented candle that instantly transports me back to that cozy day whenever I light it. It’s a wonderful way to craft a unique gift or just treat yourself to something special, and it’s surprisingly meditative. If you’re keen to pick up a new skill and warm up in the kitchen, consider a cooking class at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). They offer a huge variety of classes, from mastering Italian pasta to baking French pastries or exploring global cuisines. I had such a blast learning some new techniques and, of course, getting to enjoy the delicious meal we prepared as a group. It’s a hands-on, engaging experience that’s perfect for foodies and anyone looking for an interactive way to spend a cold day. For something a bit more nostalgic and custom, I had a blast making charm bracelets with my bestie at Kiki Chic. It’s a super cute and low-key activity where you get to pick out all sorts of adorable charms and beads to create a bracelet that’s truly your own. It’s a fantastic way to bond with a friend or family member and leave with a sweet, tangible memory of your time together in NYC. And of course, no visit to New York, especially on a cold day, is complete without experiencing the magic of Broadway. While there are countless incredible shows, I was absolutely captivated by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre. The special effects and storytelling are out of this world, and it’s the ultimate way to escape reality for a few hours. Snuggling into a warm theater seat, completely immersed in a spectacular performance, is an unbeatable way to spend an evening when it’s freezing outside. These are just a few of the many fantastic things to do in NYC when the temperature drops. Remember to always check opening hours, and consider booking popular activities like cooking classes or Broadway tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons. Stay warm, stay curious, and enjoy all the incredible indoor adventures this city has to offer!
