Soft start, strong intention 🏃🏽♀️✨
Week 1, Day 1.
Plus size, slow, but disciplined.
I’m not rushing this process — I’m building consistency.
None2Run/ Road to 5k era starts now.
Embarking on a running journey as a plus-size woman can feel intimidating, but building consistency with a soft start is key. From my own experience, beginning with run/walk intervals allows the body to adapt gradually, reducing the risk of injury and helping maintain motivation. One important lesson I’ve learned is the challenge of taking breaks mid-program. Even a short break disrupts progress and makes restarting mentally tougher. Maintaining discipline and following a structured plan, like the None2Run or Couch to 5K programs, encourages steady improvement. It’s also common to feel self-conscious during runs. For example, I noticed how some runners seem effortlessly graceful, while I felt awkward with short arms and a different running style. Embracing these differences and focusing on personal progress prevents frustration. Additionally, managing physical discomfort such as muscle irritation or breathing challenges is part of the journey. Wearing comfortable, supportive gear and pacing oneself helps alleviate these issues. For anyone starting out, remember that slow and steady wins the race. Celebrate small milestones—running an extra minute, completing an interval, or simply lacing up daily. Over time, these efforts build the stamina and confidence needed to reach the 5K goal. Lastly, accountability is invaluable. Sharing your goals with friends or online communities, using hashtags like #plussizerunner or #slowrunner, can provide encouragement and keep you motivated. Running is as much a mental commitment as a physical one, and a supportive environment makes all the difference.
