... Read moreFrom personal experience, one of the most impactful habits I've cultivated as an equestrian is the routine of recording every ride. Watching videos in slow motion allows me to notice subtle mistakes in both my position and my horse's movement that are easy to miss in real time. It’s crucial not to overwhelm yourself by trying to fix everything at once—starting with one specific issue, like my posture or the horse’s rhythm, and gradually addressing more areas helps me steadily improve. Another useful strategy is maintaining a riding journal to write down observations from each video session. This practice helps me track progress and recognize recurring challenges. When I’m unsure how to address a problem, reaching out to trusted trainers or experienced riders for guidance is invaluable. This approach cultivates a mindset focused on learning and self-improvement rather than discouragement. Critiquing yourself critically but kindly has turned out to be a game-changer, especially during shows when my trainer isn’t available. It empowers you to develop independent judgment and deeper understanding of equine behavior and riding techniques, essential skills for any committed rider. If you’re just starting to review your rides, I recommend focusing on basics like balance and communication with your horse before moving on to advanced corrections. This methodical way of video reviewing combined with ongoing feedback creates lasting improvement and confidence in your equestrian journey.
