Totoya とと家 🍱 A Hidden Gem Seafood Don in Honolulu
Been to Honolulu many times 🌊 and this trip I wanted to skip the touristy spots. I ended up trying a small seafood don place with only about a dozen seats 🪑. No reservations, walk in only ⏳. You order from the menu while still in line 📋, so once you’re seated, the food comes out pretty quickly 🍽️.
I ordered the premium seafood don 🍱. Rice at the bottom 🍚 topped with finely minced tuna 🐟, sweet snow crab 🦀 in the center, a spoonful of uni on top, and salmon roe layered around the bowl. There was also some seaweed mixed in, which kept everything light and refreshing. Large sheets of nori were tucked on the sides, perfect for tearing and wrapping as you eat 🍙.
Everything tasted very fresh ✨. I started by enjoying the seafood on its own 🥢, then mixed a little egg yolk 🥚 and soy sauce into the rice to make it richer and more moist. Wrapping the rice and seafood together with nori and eating it in one bite was so satisfying 😋.
The daily special miso soup was also excellent 🍲, with fatty salmon belly 🐟 and tofu. So good. Definitely coming back next time 👍
