Kushimoto Bridge Pile Rock
Hashigui-iwa Rock in Kushimoto-cho, Wakayama Prefecture is a group of strangely shaped rocks with about 40 large and small pillars lined up in a straight line for about 850 meters from the coast toward Kii Oshima Island. It belongs to Yoshino-Kumano National Park and is designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument.
Landscape: The name comes from the fact that the straight lines look like piles on a bridge. Igneous rocks formed by volcanic activity about 14 million years ago have been eroded over many years.
Asahi: It has been selected as one of the 100 best Asahi in Japan, and the beauty of the rising sun between the rocks is exceptional.
Changes due to tides: At low tide, you can walk to Benten Island in the middle of a row of rocks.
Legend: There is a legend that Kobo Daishi and Amanojaku made a bet to build a bridge to the island overnight.

Access: There is "Road Station Kushimoto Hashiguiiwa" in front of you, and free parking is available.
Events: Illumination is held in early November and mid-December every year, and you can enjoy a fantastic night view.
If you want to avoid the crowds, a morning visit is recommended, except during the early morning sunrise hours, according to a post as of January 2026.

くしもと橋杭岩はただの自然の奇岩群ではなく、訪れるたびに異なる表情を見せてくれるスポットです。特に私が印象に残っているのは、干潮時に潮が引いて岩の間を歩く体験です。弁天島まで渡ることができ、その間に海風や潮の香りを感じながら、岩の間の静かな時間を楽しめます。 また、朝日の美しさも格別で、「日本の朝日百選」に選ばれている理由を実感しました。岩柱の隙間から昇る朝日が海面を輝かせ、その瞬間はスマホのカメラではなかなか収まりきらないほどの感動があります。 現地の「道の駅くしもと橋杭岩」では、ご当地のミルクソフトクリームが人気で、幾つか種類があり、冬の平日でもほぼ満車になるほどの盛況です。休憩ついでに味わうと旅の思い出がさらに深まります。料金は時期によって変動するかもしれませんが、350円程度で楽しめるコスパの良さも魅力の一つです。 ライトアップイベントは例年11月上旬や12月中旬に行われ、夜の幻想的な景観は昼間とは違った神秘的な雰囲気を醸し出します。混雑を避けたいなら、早朝の日の出時間帯か午前中の訪問がおすすめです。道の駅の無料駐車場も活用し、ゆったりと自然と文化の融合を楽しめるスポットとしておすすめします。
