Located in Oyunohara, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, Otorii is the largest torii in Japan, boasting a height of 33.9m and a width of 42m.
Outline of Torii
Size: Made of steel with a height of about 34 m, a width of 42 m, and a weight of 172 tons.
Construction: It was built in 2000 (Heisei 12) as a symbol of Osaihara, the former site of Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine.
Characteristics: In the center is the emblem of "Yatagarasu," which is said to be a messenger of God.
History of Osaibara (former shrine site)
Osaibara is the original place where the main shrine of Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine was located before it was damaged by the great flood of 1889 (Meiji 22).
Location: Located in Nakasu where the three rivers of Kumano River, Otonashi River and Iwata River meet, it has long been considered a sacred place where gods descend.
Current status: Currently, the shrine is relocated to a hill (current Kumano Hongu Taisha), but a small stone shrine is enshrined on the old shrine site, and many worshipers visit as a power spot.

Location: About 10 minutes on foot from Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine.
