2025 Summer Chicago 🌸✨
Summertime in Chicago is unbeatable! There are so many things to do and beautiful sites to see. If you’re looking to visit Chicago in the summer, consider planning your trip around some of these incredible events.
Music Festivals:
1. Sueños Music Festival (May 24-25) is a two-day Latin music festival featuring artists like Shakira, Peso Pluma, Don Omar, and Grupo Frontera!
2. Chicago Blues Festival (June 5-8) is the largest FREE to attend blues festival in the world and will feature several talented musicians that have yet to be announced.
3. Beyond Wonderland (June 7-8) is an Alice in Wonderland themed EDM festival that will feature artists like Marshmello, Illenium, and Afrojack. Various rides and attractions will also be at the festival!
4. Summer Smash (June 20-22) is a popular hip-hop festival presented by Lyrical Lemonade and hosts headliners Don Toliver x Yeat, Future, & Young Thug.
5. Lollapalooza (July 31-Aug 3) is one of the most famous Chicago festivals. This year, headliners to this event include Tyler, The Creator; Luke Combs; Olivia Rodrigo; Korn; Rüfüs du Sol; Twice; Sabrina Carpenter; and A$AP Rocky!
6. Chicago Jazz Fest (Aug 28-31) is a FREE jazz festival taking place Labor Day weekend. This is a longstanding Chicago tradition that is sure to have a great lineup!
7. North Coast Festival (Aug 29-31) is celebrating 15 years this year and boasts EDM and house music artists like deadmau5, Excision, Louis the Child, and more.
8. Riot Fest (Sept 19-21) is an alternative music festival that turns 20 this year. The lineup has not yet been announced, but it will surely feature top alternative, rock, metal, and indie artists!
City Events:
1. The Memorial Day Parade (May 24) starts Memorial Day weekend with a wreath laying ceremony and large parade. This weekend, lakefront beaches officially open for the summer, so consider bringing your swimsuit!
2. Pride Fest (June 21-22) takes place the weekend before the Pride Parade. There are tons of activities, vendors, and performers that make this celebration so joyous! Past performers have included Jojo Siwa and Natasha Bedingfield, and this year’s artists will be announced soon.
3. Pride Parade (June 29) celebrates 54 years of Pride this year and has a “United in Pride” theme to highlight “the power of coming together, embracing our diversity, and championing love and equality as one united force” (pridechicago.org).
4. NASCAR Street Race (July 5-6) was recently introduced to Chicago and is so cool! It takes place on major streets over the Fourth of July weekend and will host the Zac Brown Band on Saturday evening.
5. Michelada Fest (July 19-20) celebrates all things Latino and will be dropping more information for this year’s schedule of events soon!
6. Air & Water Show (Aug 16-17) is a FREE show with pilots performing incredible stunts over the beautiful Lake Michigan.
7. Taste of Chicago (Sept 5-7) also boasts FREE admission and invites so many talented food vendors to showcase authentic Chicago cuisine!
Museum Exhibits:
1. “Frida Kahlo’s Month in Paris: a Friendship with Mary Reynolds” takes place at the The Art Institute of Chicago from March 29 through July 13 and explores Kahlo’s trip to Europe and encounter with the artist Mary Reynolds.
2. “City in a Garden: Queer Art and Activism in Chicago” runs from July 5 through January 25, 2026 at the Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago and highlights Chicago’s history and relationship to activists during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.
3. “Africa Fashion” is a current exhibit at the Field Museum that will run through June 29 and examines the history as well as contemporary themes of African designers and how they shape our global fashion landscape.
Free Events:
1. There are several farmers markets throughout Chicago that take place from May through October. Find seasonal produce and handcrafted goods at one of these markets to take home a unique and sustainable souvenir!
2. The Art Institute of Chicago offers free nights for Illinois residents on Thursdays from 5-8 pm between June 1 and September 25! Be sure to reserve these free passes online.
3. The Adler Planetarium offers free admission for Illinois residents on Wednesdays from 4pm-10pm and has stellar (pun intended) exhibits!
4. The Shedd Aquarium has select free days for Illinois residents on May 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 5pm-9pm.
