For instance, the 'vessel' refers to the container that holds the candle, which can affect the burn rate and scent throw. Speaking of 'throw,' this term is divided into 'hot throw' and 'cold throw'; hot throw describes the fragrance strength while the candle is burning, whereas cold throw relates to the scent strength when the candle is unlit. 'Burn time' is crucial for candle makers to estimate how long their candles will last before the wax is entirely used. This directly relates to factors like wick size and wax type. The 'melt pool' refers to the liquid wax that forms as the candle burns, and managing it properly ensures an even burn without tunneling—where the candle burns down the middle and leaves wax on the sides. You might notice 'mushrooming,' a condition where a carbon cap forms on the wick resembling a mushroom, which should be trimmed for optimal performance.
