Bad call?

I live near the beach and take our dog and there is a leash requirement. I’ve tried a 30’ lead and it just gets tangled. Is there such thing as a good retractable leash for use in a scenario like that? Maybe something with a brake that’s touch sensitive so that I can apply pressure to slow him down when he’s getting close to the end?

Again, to be clear since I know someone will probably take issue with my question: this would be specifically for walking on the beach. We use a 6’ non-retractable leash normally, but I would like to give him more freedom to be a puppy in the sand and ocean.

I don't like retractable leashes they fail 100% of the time failures can end in injury to both you & your dog. (collective your not you personally). You don't control that you have with a standard leash. Get a long line that gives him the freedom without the risk of leash failure.
