First up, Calton Hill. Oh my goodness, the views from here are breathtaking! It's an easy walk up, and you'll be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the city, including Edinburgh Castle, the Firth of Forth, and Arthur's Seat. I went at sunset, and it was pure magic – definitely bring your camera! You'll see the National Monument and Nelson Monument standing tall, making it a great spot for some iconic photos. Give yourself at least 2-3 hours to explore everything from the Crown Jewels to Mons Meg. And while you're in the area, a quick detour to see Greyfriars Bobby statue is a heartwarming stop – the story behind it is so touching. If you're into museums, the National Museum of Scotland is fantastic and has something for everyone, from Scottish history to natural world exhibits. I spent a good few hours there and could have easily spent more! For a completely different vibe, make your way to Dean Village. It's a tranquil oasis just a short walk from the city center, with charming old buildings and a lovely riverside path. It felt like stepping into another world, so peaceful and picturesque. And for a bit of literary history and amazing city views, the Scott Monument is an impressive Gothic spire dedicated to Sir Walter Scott. You can even climb to the top for more incredible perspectives! Beyond these specific spots, my general tip for Edinburgh is to wear comfortable shoes – it's a very walkable city, but there are lots of hills and cobblestones!
