นอกจาก arm→arms (แขน→อาวุธ) กับ good→goods (ดี→สินค้า) แล้ว ยังมีคำที่ “เติม s แล้วไม่ได้แปลว่าแค่พหูพจน์” อีกหลายคำที่เจอบ่อยในข้อสอบ/บทอ่านค่ะ ฉันชอบใช้วิธีคิดว่า ถ้าพอเติม s แล้วแปลแปลก ๆ ให้หยุดก่อน 1 วิ แล้วดู “บริบท” รอบคำทันที จะช่วยกันพลาดได้เยอะมาก ตัวอย่างที่ควรระวัง (พร้อมคำอ่าน/คำแปลแบบจำง่าย) - custom (ธรรมเนียม) vs customs (ศุลกากร) — เวลาเห็นคำว่า at customs = ที่ด่านศุลกากร ไม่ใช่ “ที่ธรรมเนียม” - work (งาน/ทำงาน) vs works (ผลงาน/โรงงาน/ระบบการทำงาน) — เช่น The waterworks = ระบบประปา, It works = มันใช้ได้ผล - manner (กิริยามารยาท/วิธี) vs manners (มารยาท) — good manners = มารยาทดี - minute (นาที) vs minutes (รายงานการประชุม/บันทึกการประชุม) — meeting minutes ไม่ใช่ “นาทีของประชุม” - look (มอง/รูปลักษณ์) vs looks (หน้าตา/รูปลักษณ์) — judge by looks = ตัดสินจากหน้าตา ทริคสั้น ๆ เวลาทำข้อสอบ/อ่านบทความ 1) ถ้าเป็น “คำนามเฉพาะงาน/หน่วยงาน” มักลงท้าย s เช่น customs (ศุลกากร) 2) ถ้าอยู่กับกริยาเอกพจน์อย่าง It/He/She + works ให้แปลว่า “ใช้ได้ผล/ทำงานได้” 3) ถ้าอยู่ในวลี固定 (collocation) ให้จำทั้งวลี เช่น good manners, meeting minutes อีกประเด็นที่คนค้นหาบ่อยคือ “อาวุธ ภาษาอังกฤษ” นอกจาก arms แล้ว ยังเจอ weapon (อาวุธทั่วไป), gun (ปืน), knife (มีด) แต่ในข่าว/บทความทางการ arms มักหมายถึง “อาวุธ” แบบรวม ๆ หรือ “อาวุธยุทโธปกรณ์” ส่วนคำถามแนว “คำศัพท์ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย S / s มีคำศัพท์อะไรบ้าง” ถ้าอยากเริ่มจำแบบใช้งานได้ ฉันจะเลือกเป็นหมวดที่ใช้จริง เช่น - study, skill, score (เกี่ยวกับเรียน) - schedule, service, support (ชีวิตประจำวัน) - safety, solution, summary (งาน/ข้อสอบ) ปิดท้าย ถ้าเจอคำที่เติม s แล้วไม่แน่ใจ ลองสลับแปล 2 แบบ (เอกพจน์/ความหมายเฉพาะ) แล้วเลือกแบบที่เข้ากับประโยคที่สุด วิธีนี้ช่วยกันหลุดคะแนนจาก “ตัว s เปลี่ยนเกม” ได้จริงค่ะ
