... Read moreOkay, guys, I just had to share my recent trip to Memphis, and trust me, you won't believe what I found! Forget everything you thought you knew about outdoor stores because the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid is an experience unlike any other. Who puts a massive outdoor superstore inside the 9th largest pyramid in the world? Only in Memphis, right? It's truly a marvel.
Driving up, the sheer scale of the pyramid is breathtaking. This gleaming structure towers over the landscape, especially impressive against the Mississippi River. The exterior is instantly recognizable as a Bass Pro Shops, but its unique shape truly makes it stand out. I couldn't wait to see what secrets it held inside.
Stepping through the doors, I was immediately struck by the vast interior. It's not just big; it's an entire ecosystem! The high ceiling disappears into the apex, and everywhere you look, there are rustic-themed shops and displays. It felt less like a store and more like an immersive adventure park. My eyes were drawn to the central blue-lit tower – housing the country's tallest free-standing elevator!
One of the first things that grabbed my attention was the massive indoor swamp – yes, a swamp! It features shallow pools of water teeming with fish, surrounded by lush foliage and natural-looking rocks, recreating a natural habitat. Then, around the corner, a stunning indoor waterfall cascades over rocks and greenery, adding a serene sound. Further in, a unique dining area boasts a huge, cylindrical aquarium right in the middle, filled with even more fish. The themed indoor retail space, designed with rustic cabin-like structures and illuminated by string lights, makes you feel like you've stepped into a wilderness lodge.
Taking that elevator up to the observation deck was another highlight. The views are absolutely spectacular! You get a panoramic vista of the Memphis skyline, the expansive Mississippi River, and even parts of Arkansas. It’s a definite must-do. Beyond retail, the pyramid is also home to the Big Cypress Lodge, a wilderness-themed hotel. Yes, you can actually stay inside! This isn't just shopping; it's an entire entertainment complex with restaurants, a bowling alley, and an archery range.
Now, while the Memphis Pyramid is an impressive structure, being the 9th largest in terms of height, its purpose is vastly different from the ancient wonders of Giza. This is a modern architectural feat designed for commerce and entertainment, not an ancient tomb. But it certainly holds its own in unique scale and ambition!
So, if you're ever in Memphis, I highly recommend dedicating a few hours (or even a day!) to exploring the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid. It’s a truly unique blend of retail, nature, architecture, and entertainment. My mind was completely blown, and I promise yours will be too!
