A story from the real life of the first serious crime defendant in U.S. history to be found not guilty by a court of insanity, stemming from a "multi-personality disease."

Pim first saw Billy's name in the book "Roommate Puzzle." There was no book about Billy in Thailand, but I really wanted to read it, so I took the money to Asia Books. Thank you to the staff who pressed the pre-book for all 5th grade children who could not read English. 🤣

The events of the book begin with kidnappings, robberies, and sexual abuses. Three girls from Ohio State University, after Billy was arrested, "David" accidentally told his secret to psychologist Dorothy Turner, so we found out that Billy suffered from multiple personalities and got to know "The Ten," the first 10 personalities who took turns "out" to live their daily lives and perform various functions, with "Arthur" and "Reagan" working together to control their individual duties and analyze who the situation should be released, and later discovered that there were 13 unpleasant personalities. Arthur saw that they were a threat, that they were organized into outsiders and would never be given another chance to leave, and that the last personality, the teacher, was the one that fused all the personalities.

The cause of the chaos came from domestic violence. The tragic events of Billy's real father repeated the worst story from Billy's stepfather, shattering one of the children to escape the pain behind the scenes and letting another "personality" take the pain instead.

Each personality will have a different identity, different age, color, race, accent, gender, and aptitude, and everyone has their own specific duties, such as in childhood. "David" will come out and take all the pain and leave. When Billy comes back out of school, he won't feel any pain, either physically or mentally. "Shawn" will come out when Billy gets scolded by his mother or the teacher because Shawn is deaf, making him not hear he's being scolded, or "Reagan" will come out when Billy is in danger. While it's not fair for Billy to be held liable for another personality, it's also unfair to the victim that the criminal will be released and receive no punishment. After the trial, despite being convicted of insanity, there are still a lot of people who think he's faking illness, from the prosecutor or even the doctor himself, so that later Billy's approach to treatment was not based on the principle of treating multiple personalities until the end of his book Akara was pretty terrible.

The book ends in 1982, but after finding out more, he was found to have escaped from a psychiatric hospital, used the name Christopher Carr, worked for the Hot Tub Company, and had been involved in Michael Madden's disappearance, with witnesses seeing the two having a voice and being the last time Madden was found.

Billy lost his life aged 59 to cancer in a nursing home in Columbus.

I've read this long stretch, but let me tell you, this is not a fraction of the book's content. In the book, there is a very early period of being treated so properly that they can fuse each personality so that the teacher can leave and collaborate with the author to tell them their background from childhood to the present, a life that, if Pim himself, would have lost consciousness not to Billy at all.
