"Cat age is human age" (Edad Humana de los Gatos)
Edad Humana de los Gatos is a chart to help owners understand what age their cats are at compared to human development.
In the chart, you can see the following interesting proportions:
1.Childhood and adolescent period (very fast growing)
During the first 2 years, cats grow rapidly equivalent to passing childhood to early adulthood:
• The first 6 months: equivalent to a 10-year-old.
• 1 year: equivalent to a 15-year-old teenager.
• 2 years: equivalent to an adult aged 24 (pictured, approximately 22-24 years old)
2. The adult period (change starts constant)
After two years of age, the calculations start to become stagnant. Generally, a cat's year is about four years old:
• 3 years: Comparable to a 28-year-old.
• 5 years: Comparable to a 36-year-old.
• 7 years: Comparable to a 44-year-old.
3. Middle to elderly
When a cat reaches the age of 10 and above, it is considered a "senior cat":
• 10 years: equivalent to a person aged 56
• 12 years: equivalent to a 64-year-old
• 15 years: equivalent to a person aged 76 (pictured indicates a range of 72-76 years)
4. Very old age
Cats over 18-20 years old are considered to be very healthy grandparents:
• 18 years: equivalent to 88 years of age
• 20 years: equivalent to a 96-year-old
Additional remarks from the image:
• Accuracy: The numbers in the chart may have slight discrepancies by breed and care (e.g. domesticated cats often outlive wandering cats).
• Care: When a cat enters 7-10 (at the cat level) or 40-50 (at the human level), it should be started to take her to a thorough annual check-up because the internal organs will begin to deteriorate with age.
If you have a cat at home and know the current age, you can compare it to the wheel at what age you are now.
