When your brain says “Nope” to journaling

Some days I can journal for pages.

Other days I open my notebook, stare at it for approximately seven years, suddenly remember I should clean the refrigerator, wonder whatever happened to that girl I knew in 8th grade, and decide perhaps I have never had a thought in my entire life.

😂

That resistance is part of journaling too.

Sometimes the blank page feels hard because we think whatever we write needs to be useful. Insightful. Worth keeping. Maybe something our future biographer will discover and whisper, my god...she knew.

Meanwhile, the sentence in my head is: “I am annoyed and I don't know why.”

WRITE THAT.

A journaling practice doesn't have to produce revelations every time you sit down. Sometimes you're simply building the habit of showing up and giving your thoughts somewhere to go.

One sentence counts. Complaining counts. Writing “I don't want to journal today” twelve times absolutely counts.

And weirdly? That's often when something else sneaks onto the page.

If you want to start journaling but keep getting stuck at okay...now what the hell do I write?, I made a simple how-to-journal guide for exactly that. Head to my profile and you'll find it waiting for you there. 💗
