Cost of Groceries Is Rising

Just last week, a head of lettuce cost $1.86—a noticeable jump from the 94 cents it was just a year ago. Today, that same lettuce is now $2.37. At first glance, these changes might seem small, but for families living paycheck to paycheck, these incremental increases quickly snowball into real financial pressure.
Milk prices have also climbed, along with nearly every other staple item on grocery shelves. When everything rises even just a little, it all adds up. And for families like mine, the effects are impossible to ignore.
My husband works hard. I attend school. We have children to care for, feed, and support. We’re not asking for luxuries—we just want to afford the basics without constant stress. Like so many other working-class families, we’re doing everything “right,” and yet, it feels like we’re always a step behind.
These rising costs are frustrating and disheartening. It shouldn’t be this difficult to afford food. We need real solutions that address affordability and support the people who make up the backbone of this country: working families.
