Art Project Fail 😝

Sometimes it just doesn’t work… it could be the tip of your blue #poscamarker should be cleaned or maybe it’s running out… or the drawing is too complicated for your skill set at the moment aka my attempt to do #harleyQuinn hehehe…

I’ll see these aside at least for now and revisit it in a later day maybe I can make it a bit better 😝

Just keep creating sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn’t 😅

... Read moreIt's a feeling every creator knows: that moment when your vision just isn't translating onto the page, and your art project feels like a complete 'fail.' I've been there more times than I can count, recently with a tricky Harley Quinn piece and a misbehaving Posca marker. But what does 'failing to make on paper' truly mean, and how can we navigate those frustrating moments without giving up? First, let's acknowledge that creative blocks and technical glitches are a universal part of the artistic journey. Sometimes, it's genuinely the tools – a marker that's dried out, paint that won't blend, or paper that tears unexpectedly. Other times, like my intricate drawing attempt, our ambition might simply outpace our current skill set. It's easy to get discouraged when you see flawless art online, but remember, every artist faces these hurdles. I've found that these 'failures' aren't really failures at all; they're incredibly valuable lessons in disguise. Each time something doesn't work out, it forces me to analyze, adapt, and grow. Maybe I need to research a new technique, practice a specific element, or simply accept that not every piece needs to be a masterpiece. It teaches resilience and reminds me that art is a process, not just an end product. When I hit a wall, my go-to strategy is to step away – just like I did with my recent project. Giving yourself space allows your mind to reset. I might work on something completely different, take a walk, or even just doodle aimlessly. Sometimes, even my trusty ThinkPad becomes a canvas for quick digital sketches when I'm feeling a block, allowing me to play without the pressure of 'ruining' paper. This low-stakes experimentation often sparks new ideas or helps me see the original problem from a fresh perspective. Another trick I've learned is to embrace the 'ugly' stage. Not every stroke will be perfect, and that's okay. Perfectionism can be a huge creativity killer. I often tell myself, 'Just make something,' rather than 'Make something perfect.' This shift in mindset helps me relax, enjoy the process, and often leads to unexpected breakthroughs. Art, for me, is also a form of mindfulness. Even when it's challenging, the act of creating helps calm my mind and focus on the present moment. Whether it's the repetitive motion of doodling or the intense concentration required for a detailed piece, it's a valuable escape. So, if your art project is 'failing,' perhaps it's an invitation to explore a different medium, simplify your subject, or just create purely for the joy of it, without any pressure. Ultimately, the meaning of 'failing on paper' is not about your lack of talent, but about the beautiful, messy, and continuous journey of learning and self-expression. So clean that marker tip, simplify that complicated drawing, and most importantly, keep creating. You never know what amazing lessons your next 'fail' will teach you.
