It turns out not getting pregnant wasn’t the flex I thought it was.
What’s the most ridiculous thing you believed about getting pregnant before TTC or starting you fertility treatment journey?
Reflecting on my own fertility journey, I realized how much misinformation I had believed before starting to try to conceive (TTC). For instance, I once worried unnecessarily about encountering a 'rogue sperm' from casual encounters or the environment—like from a college frat house toilet seat—which was a completely unfounded fear. Many people hold similar misconceptions that can add unnecessary stress to the TTC process. Visiting the fertility clinic was a turning point, as it helped me understand how complex and unique each individual's experience with infertility can be. Fertility isn't just about chance encounters or myths; it's influenced by many medical and lifestyle factors that often require professional evaluation. It's common to assume conception will happen quickly and easily, but for numerous couples, delays are normal. Starting fertility treatment like IVF or other interventions is not a personal failure but often a needed step to increase the chances of pregnancy. Sharing this experience helps normalize the emotional rollercoaster many face and highlights the importance of seeking accurate information and support early in the fertility journey. If you're just starting TTC or facing infertility challenges, try to let go of the myths that can cause shame or self-blame, and focus on informed decisions and compassionate care.
