Order of Draw #1

The Order of Draw is a critical procedure in phlebotomy, ensuring that specimens are collected in a sequence that minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and erroneous test results. In this process, blood cultures are often drawn first, with tubes used for aerobic and anaerobic cultures being collected before other samples. Following this, the light blue tube is collected for coagulation studies, ensuring that the specimen is free from any substances that might interfere with testing. Subsequent to the light blue tube, blood is drawn into the red tube for serum tests, followed by the SST (Serum Separator Tube), which allows for serum separation after centrifugation. The light green tube is used for plasma tests, while the green tube is reserved for specific tests that require heparinized plasma. The order continues with the lavender tube, commonly used for complete blood counts and other hematological tests, and finally the grey tube, which is utilized for glucose testing among other procedures.
