New Year, Same Me — Just Trying 🐱💪🏼

January always comes with a lot of pressure. New goals, new routines, new expectations — especially when it comes to fitness. Everywhere you look, it feels like everyone is suddenly disciplined, motivated, and completely on track.

I like to think I’ll be that person too. The one who wakes up early, sticks to a routine, and feels strong and accomplished every day. But if I’m being honest, my reality looks a little different. Some days I feel motivated and excited. Some days I show up but complain the entire time. And some days… I’m just here because snacks exist and movement feels better than nothing.

That’s why I find these Gym Cats oddly comforting. They don’t pretend that fitness is always intense or aesthetic. They capture the full picture — the purr-sonal best days, the “feeling the burn” days, and the very real “doing this for the treats” days.

This year, I’m trying to remind myself that progress doesn’t have to look perfect to be real. Showing up tired still counts. Taking breaks still counts. Laughing through the struggle still counts.

Maybe the goal isn’t to completely reinvent ourselves every January. Maybe it’s just to keep going, at our own pace, with a little more kindness and a lot less pressure.

... Read moreAs someone who struggles to maintain a strict fitness routine, I've found that being too hard on myself only leads to burnout. The amusing 'Gym Cats' images perfectly capture the ups and downs of fitness—from pushing through the burn to admitting when it’s really about the snacks. One tip I've picked up is to celebrate small victories, like simply moving even if it’s just a walk or a light stretch. Not every workout has to be intense to count. I've also started listening to my body more, allowing rest days without guilt, which has helped me stay consistent over time. Incorporating humor and self-compassion into my fitness journey has made it more enjoyable and sustainable. For instance, the idea of doing it 'for the treats' resonates deeply, reminding me that balance and enjoyment are key. In the end, progress doesn’t require perfection—just persistence and kindness towards yourself. If you’re also navigating the pressure of New Year resolutions, I hope sharing my experience encourages you to embrace a realistic and joyful approach to fitness.

New Year Resolution? No, Thank You!

You can have it all –just not all at the same time
This time of year can quietly turn into a checklist: finish strong at work, show up for family, be present for friends, rest, “work on myself”, plan next year… all at once. For many ADHD / neurodivergent adults, it can feel like you’re failing if you can’t hold everything together in December.
