Pong is comparable to the kitchen of a wild deer.
SALT LICK is an area or area where different minerals can be found, which are necessary for the body and the livelihood of wildlife.
Specifically, herbivorous animals such as elephants, bison, red cows, stags, deer, birds, etc. Because herbivorous animals do not have essential mineral components for the body, animals have to replace them by eating soil or water from bulbs. There are two common bulbs: spontaneous bulbs and man-made bulbs.
There are two types of spontaneous bulges:
1. The soil is a ground area composed of minerals. Animals often use their mouth to dig the soil to eat it. They start eating at the surface of the soil first and then gradually deepen until we see it as a basin or pond, most of which is less than 1 meter deep. In the rainy season, the soil may be flooded. Animals do not eat the soil, but instead eat the water trapped in the soil.
2. Water pools are the origin of streams or ponds, seeped throughout the year, found in areas that seep or mop water or flow out of mountains, basins or ponds that have been polluted before, with water throughout the year.
The man-made bulge, or "artificial bulge," is shaped by digging the soil in the selected area into a basin, and mixing the ocean salt with the excavated soil. When there is rain or moisture from the dew, the salt melts, salting the soil. Different species of wildlife feed on these soil.

หลายคนเจอคำว่า “โป่ง” แล้วนึกภาพไม่ออกว่าเกี่ยวอะไรกับสัตว์ป่า จริง ๆ โป่ง (salt lick) เปรียบเหมือน “ครัว” หรือ “ร้านขายของชำ” ของสัตว์กินพืชเลยค่ะ เพราะในใบไม้ หญ้า เปลือกไม้ที่สัตว์กินเป็นหลัก มักมีแร่ธาตุบางชนิดไม่พอ โดยเฉพาะโซเดียม แคลเซียม แมกนีเซียม สัตว์เลยต้องมาหาแร่ธาตุเสริมจากดินหรือน้ำที่มีรสเค็ม/มีแร่ธาตุละลายอยู่ โป่งดินคืออะไร? ถ้าอธิบายแบบเห็นภาพ โป่งดินคือพื้นดินที่มีแร่ธาตุรวมตัวกัน สัตว์จะใช้ปากขุดหรือเลียดินจากผิวหน้าดินก่อน แล้วค่อย ๆ ลึกลงไปจนกลายเป็นแอ่งหรือบ่อเล็ก ๆ บางจุดพอเข้าฤดูฝนมีน้ำขัง สัตว์อาจเปลี่ยนจาก “กินดิน” เป็น “กินน้ำที่ขัง” แทน (เพราะน้ำพาแร่ธาตุละลายออกมา) ส่วน “โป่งน้ำ” จะคล้ายแหล่งน้ำซึมหรือต้นน้ำเล็ก ๆ ที่มีน้ำไหลซึมทั้งปี บางแห่งเกิดจากแอ่งโป่งดินเดิมที่มีน้ำขังตลอด ทำให้สัตว์มาเลียน้ำหรือดื่มน้ำที่มีแร่ธาตุสูงกว่าปกติ จุดนี้มักเป็นทำเลที่สัตว์หลายชนิดผลัดกันมาใช้ จึงเป็นพื้นที่สำคัญมากต่อระบบนิเวศ แล้ว “โป่งเทียม” คืออะไร? โป่งเทียมคือโป่งที่คนช่วยทำขึ้น (มักเป็นโป่งดิน) โดยขุดเป็นแอ่งแล้วผสมเกลือสมุทรลงไป เมื่อมีความชื้นหรือน้ำฝน เกลือจะละลายซึมในดิน ทำให้สัตว์มากินดินบริเวณนั้นได้ แต่ควรทำภายใต้การดูแลของเจ้าหน้าที่/หน่วยงานอนุรักษ์เท่านั้น เพราะถ้าทำผิดจุดหรือทำมากเกินไป อาจรบกวนพฤติกรรมสัตว์และทำให้สัตว์เสี่ยงเข้าใกล้คน อีกเรื่องที่หลายคนค้นหาคือ “นั่งโป่ง หมายถึงอะไร” ในบริบทธรรมชาติ/การดูสัตว์ป่า มักหมายถึงการนั่งเฝ้าบริเวณโป่งเพื่อสังเกตสัตว์ที่มาหากินแร่ธาตุ (เช่น นั่งเงียบ ๆ รอช่วงเช้ามืดหรือหัวค่ำ) แต่ถ้าเป็นพื้นที่อุทยานฯ ควรทำตามกฎ ระยะห่างที่ปลอดภัย และไม่ส่งเสียง/ใช้แฟลช เพราะโป่งเป็นเหมือนจุดนัดพบของสัตว์ ถ้าถูกรบกวนบ่อย ๆ สัตว์อาจเลิกใช้พื้นที่ได้ ถ้าไปเที่ยวอุทยานแล้วเจอโป่งหรือป้ายบอกจุดโป่ง แนะนำให้ดูห่าง ๆ ไม่ทิ้งเศษอาหาร ไม่โปรยเกลือเอง และเคารพช่วงเวลาที่เจ้าหน้าที่กำหนด เท่านี้เราก็ได้เรียนรู้ธรรมชาติแบบไม่กระทบสัตว์ป่าค่ะ
