The trunk is up to 12 meters tall, sometimes branched, the leaves are more than 2 meters long, the petioles are 30-80 centimeters long, the leaves slightly curved, the petioles are slender.
The oval male cone is 30-55 centimeters long, the leaves form a narrow slender microspore, 4-6 centimeters long, with dense soft short hairs, the ends are thorny, 1.7-3.2 centimeters long.
The leaves form a group of abmegaspores, 22-30 centimeters long, with short, soft, dense hairs, round-shaped leaf plates 10-18 centimeters long, deep edges, frequent comb spokes 2.5-7.5 centimeters long, spiny tips 3.5-7.5 centimeters long, ovules have 2-4 grains, seeds 4.2-4.5 centimeters long, the inner wall has a fiber layer.
It is found in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, southern China, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam. In Thailand, it is found in the north and northeast, up in the Chrysanthemum forest, arid rainforest, and montane forest, 600-1300 meters.
