This trip to Japan was supposed to be a quiet getaway. I chose the small "Ryokang" in the suburbs of Kyoto, a two-story old wooden building hidden in a valley. The evening atmosphere looked sober, but at sunset, the quiet turned out to be an unspeakable creepy wong.

I grabbed the bag and jumped out into the hallway, but I found that the pale white throat was longer than I thought, slipping through one of the blooms to another, like a yarn that tried to wrap around me.

I ran down the stairs to the ground floor, and saw my aunt kneeling peacefully in the middle of the hall, but her head was not on her shoulders! Only her neck stretched out through the upstairs window, and was retracting as quickly as a spring was released.

In Japanese mythology, long-necked ghosts are usually cursed women. During the day they live like normal people, but at night the neck stretches out to find prey or drink oil from the lamp. Some myths believe that if we hide her headless body, she will not be able to continue pulling her head back and will eventually die.
