How Do I Know If I'm Doing God's Will?
How Do I Know If I'm Doing God's Will? Understanding God's Revealed and Unrevealed Will
We discuss the important question of how to know if you're doing God's will by examining Matthew 7:21-23, where Jesus warns that not everyone who performs miracles, prophesies, or casts out demons will enter the kingdom of heaven—only those who do the will of God the Father. We explore two categories of God's will: the revealed will found in Scripture (what is clearly commanded in the Bible) and the unrevealed will (specific directions like career choices or marriage decisions). The key message is simple: if you read your Bible and obey what God has revealed, He will guide you in the areas that aren't explicitly stated. By obeying Scripture, you won't be led astray in life's major decisions.

Knowing if you are doing God’s will can sometimes feel challenging, especially when the path isn’t explicitly outlined. From my experience, grounding your decisions in Scripture is the most reliable way to stay on course. Matthew 7:21-23 reminds us that actions alone—even miraculous ones—aren't enough; genuine obedience matters most. When facing major life decisions like choosing a career or entering a marriage, praying for guidance and reflecting on biblical principles helps clarify God’s direction. Additionally, seeking counsel from mature, trusted believers often provides confirmation and peace about the right path. I’ve also found that staying open to God’s Spirit, through prayer and worship, deepens my sensitivity to His leading. Sometimes God’s will unfolds gradually, so patience and faith in His timing are essential. Understanding the distinction between God’s revealed will—the clear biblical commands—and His unrevealed will—specific, individualized directions—is empowering. By faithfully following Scripture, you create a foundation that prevents you from being misled. This approach encourages freedom rather than restriction, allowing God to lead in unique personal circumstances. Embracing obedience as a lifestyle helps integrate God’s guidance into everyday choices. Reflecting regularly on Scriptures like Matthew 7 and engaging in Bible study sharpen discernment skills. Ultimately, trusting God’s wisdom, even when the outcome is uncertain, brings confidence that you are walking in His will.
