My goal is always to make my guests feel not just welcome, but truly special, ensuring their arrival is as smooth and memorable as possible. It's about creating an experience, not just providing a place to sleep. Before they even ring the doorbell, I start with some pre-arrival magic. I always send a quick message a few days before, confirming details like arrival time and asking if they have any dietary preferences or specific needs. This small gesture really sets the tone, showing them I'm thinking of their comfort. I also make sure to share practical info like parking instructions, gate codes, or how to use a smart lock – anything that helps them feel prepared and reduces fumbling when they first get here. On the day of, I try my best to be present when they arrive. A warm, personal greeting makes all the difference, especially after a long journey! Once they're in, I give a quick, relaxed tour, highlighting key areas like the kitchen and, most importantly, their dedicated guest space. This is where my checklist truly shines! First things first, I make sure the Wifi password is visible in their room – no one wants to ask for Wi-Fi after traveling! For their sanctuary, I focus on creating a cozy and convenient environment. Fresh, nice sheets are a must, of course, and I love offering assorted pillow options because everyone has a preference. A sound machine can be a real blessing for light sleepers, and a diffuser with calming oils adds such a lovely, relaxing ambiance. I always lay out extra blankets and ensure a fan is accessible, giving them control over their comfort. Little touches go a long way. I place a phone charger with an extension cord right by the bed; it's so convenient! A good reading lamp and a few books, magazines, or a notebook invite them to relax. I also make sure to clear surfaces from personal items so they have plenty of space for their belongings. A small bottle of water and a few easy-to-grab snacks on the nightstand are always appreciated after a trip. In the bathroom, I stock a basket of essential items: Kleenex, makeup wipes, a spare toothbrush, and travel-sized toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Plenty of toilet paper and a nice room spray are non-negotiables. And yes, I make sure there's a plunger in the bathroom – it's one of those things you hope they never need but are so glad it's there! Fresh, fluffy extra towels are always laid out, and I love leaving a cozy robe for an extra touch of luxury. For practicality, a luggage stand, some hooks to hang bags and/or clothes, and a wastebasket make their space functional. If they're staying longer, I even put an empty laundry basket in the closet. Beyond the physical items, being available without being overbearing is key. I usually leave a little note with local recommendations – my favorite coffee shop, a beautiful park, or a great restaurant. This gives them options and shows I've thought about their overall experience. Ultimately, a truly memorable guest arrival comes from the heart.
