... Read moreI've been going to the same Dominican hair stylist since I was 12 years old, and in all that time, my hair has remained healthy and strong despite regular treatments. Many people have misconceptions about Dominican hair salons, but from my experience, they truly understand how to care for natural and treated hair with precision and expertise. One key treatment I’ve benefited from is the keratin treatment. It’s amazing how this process smooths and strengthens hair, reducing frizz and making it more manageable without causing damage when done right. My stylist applies heat carefully during the keratin treatment, which is vital to avoid burning or weakening the hair shaft. This level of skill has helped me maintain my hair’s natural shine and softness. Aside from keratin, my stylist has dyed, trimmed, and cut my hair over the years. Each time, she ensures the health of my hair remains a priority, using methods that minimize breakage and promote growth. This attention to care counters the negative stereotypes about Dominican salons sometimes "eating" or damaging hair. From personal experience, the warm and consistent atmosphere in these salons adds to the confidence and relaxation that make hair care a positive routine. I’ve also noticed that Dominican stylists often have deep knowledge about different hair textures, which helps tailor treatments to keep hair at its best. If you’re considering trying out a Dominican hair salon, my advice is to find a stylist you trust and communicate openly about your hair goals. Consistent care, professional treatments, and skilled heat application have made a big difference in my hair’s health over the years. This journey has taught me to look beyond stereotypes and appreciate the expertise these salons offer, especially for Black hair care.
