Humble beginnings 🤙🏽

As I get older, I feel the need to share more of my story. Maybe that’s what age does it makes you want to open up.

Growing up, I had a hard time with my name, Salvador. Kids would call me names like Salvadork, Sally, and worse. One day, I looked up the meaning of my name and found out it meant “Savior.” That changed me. From that moment, I wanted to protect people. I became my own kind of hero.

But living in the projects, I soon realized trying to save people in the streets was dangerous it was only a matter of time before I’d get killed. I needed another way. That’s when martial arts became my answer.

In high school, I started an after-school martial arts club with my brother and Kevin Williams. We taught a group of twenty young women. That was the spark the moment I knew teaching martial arts was my purpose.

I opened my first dojo in the worst spot. one side had a cantina, the other a liquor store. Gangs tried to shut me down, life threw fight after fight my way. But we survived. We pushed through. And from that fire, NAK was born.

What started with pain turned into purpose. What started with teasing turned into strength. And what started as one kid with a name became a tribe that changes lives.
