A Delta flight’s terrifying crash landing

On February 17, 2025, Delta Flight 4819 from Minneapolis crashed upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, flipping upside down on the runway. The CRJ-900 aircraft, operated by Endeavor Air, carried 76 passengers and four crew members. All survived, with 18 injured individuals transported to hospitals—two in critical condition. Passengers described chaotic scenes, with one recalling hanging “like bats” after the aircraft overturned and evacuating amid the smell of jet fuel. Another passenger reported seeing a fireball post-impact, while a medical helicopter pilot at the scene described the plane as “upside down and burning.”

Emergency crews responded within minutes, credited by airport CEO Deborah Flint for preventing fatalities through a “textbook response.” Initial reports indicate dry runway conditions with no crosswinds, though gusty winds and blowing snow were noted during approach. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is leading the investigation, with the US NTSB assisting. Two runways remain closed, impacting operations. Flights resumed by 5 p.m. local time after temporary suspensions, though over 200 flights were canceled earlier.

This incident follows a January midair collision between an American Airlines plane and a US Army helicopter near Washington D.C., plus December crashes involving Jeju Air and Azerbaijan Airlines that resulted in fatalities. Authorities continue analyzing data to determine the cause, with updates expected as the probe progresses.
