Guys Dorm Bed Checklist: Need vs Nice vs Skip
So I broke the dorm bed down into what actually matters. Same bed, three stages, plus the stuff I’d skip.
NEED, the essentials
Mattress topper, mattress pad, a Twin XL sheet set and comforter, and 2 real pillows. Dorm mattresses are thin and the frame is Twin XL, not Twin, so this is the part you don’t cut corners on. Comfort first.
NICE, worth having
Mattress encasement, a duvet, an extra sheet set for laundry week, a bedside charger and organizer, a clip on light, a fan, and a headboard that zip ties right to the frame with no tools and no damage. These are the upgrades that make daily life easier.
NICEST, the finishing touches
A long bedside shelf (mom hack - use a king size head board with cubbies), an upgraded sheet set, a soft blanket, a lumbar pillow, and an eye mask for a roommate’s schedule. This is the styled version, the one that feels like his.
NO, save your money
Multiple throw pillows, extra blankets nobody uses, the bundle sets. They end up on the floor or under the bed by week one. Less stuff means more room to actually live.
Start with the four you NEED. Everything after that is leveling up when you’re ready.
