✨Art of noticing✨

2024/7/31 Edited to

... Read moreHave you ever felt like life is just a blur, rushing from one task to the next without truly experiencing anything? I definitely used to feel that way! But then I stumbled upon what I now call the art of noticing, and it's completely transformed my daily routine and my overall happiness. It’s not about finding grand adventures, but about appreciating the little, often overlooked details that make up our world. For me, noticing started as a simple exercise. I'd challenge myself to spot something new on my usual walk – a unique leaf, a cloud formation, or the way light hit a building. What I quickly realized was how much beauty I had been missing! It's like my eyes were open, but I wasn't truly seeing. This practice isn't just for artists or photographers; it's a powerful tool for anyone wanting to inject more mindfulness and joy into their life. So, how can you cultivate the art of noticing in your own life? Here are a few things I've found incredibly helpful: Mindful Walks: Instead of listening to music or scrolling on your phone, try a silent walk. Actively engage your senses. What do you hear? The rustle of leaves, distant laughter, a bird's song? What do you smell? Fresh rain, blooming flowers, a bakery? What textures do you see? The rough bark of a tree, the smooth surface of a bench, the intricate patterns on a sidewalk. Sensory Focus: Pick one sense and immerse yourself in it for a minute or two. For example, when you're drinking your morning coffee, notice the warmth of the mug, the rich aroma, the subtle taste, the way the steam rises. Don't rush through it; truly experience it. The "Photo Pause" Method: Even if you're not a keen photographer, try framing moments with your phone camera. Sometimes, just the act of composing a shot makes you look at a scene with fresh eyes, drawing your attention to details you might have otherwise ignored. This ties in perfectly with #capturethemoment and can make your everyday photos so much more interesting. Journal Your Observations: At the end of the day, jot down three small things you noticed. They don't have to be profound. Maybe it was the way a stranger smiled, the vibrant color of a fruit, or the intricate design of a spiderweb. This reinforces the habit and helps you reflect on the beauty you encountered. Slow Down: This is probably the most crucial tip. We're often in such a rush that we literally don't have time to notice. Try to build in small pockets of slowness into your day. Sit for an extra five minutes after a meal, wait patiently without distraction, or take a slightly longer route to your destination. Embracing the art of noticing has genuinely made me feel more connected to my surroundings and more appreciative of the simple magic in everyday life. It's a skill that gets better with practice, and the rewards – increased presence, gratitude, and a deeper sense of wonder – are absolutely worth it. Give it a try, and you might just discover a whole new world right outside your door!

I frequently have this fear of adoring things because everyone else adores them. As a visual person I am constantly asking myself, did I pick this? Or did I let someone else tell me to like this? It probably comes from a fear of “being like everyone else” because don’t we all want to be unique?
