The art of noticing nature😊

2025/7/10 Edited to

... Read moreHave you ever felt like the world is moving too fast, and you're missing out on the simple beauty right in front of you? That's exactly how I felt until I discovered the art of noticing nature. It's more than just seeing; it's about truly observing, engaging all your senses, and allowing yourself to connect with the living world around you. It’s a practice that has brought so much peace and a deeper sense of connection into my daily life. For me, it started with a conscious decision to slow down during my usual walks outside. Instead of just powering through, I began to purposefully look for details. It's amazing what you discover when you shift your focus. I began to realize that the vibrant green moss on an old tree, the intricate pattern of a spiderweb glistening with dew, or the unique song of a bird I hadn't heard before, were always there, waiting to be noticed. So, how can you cultivate your own art of noticing nature? Here are a few simple tips that have truly helped me: Engage All Your Senses: Don't just look. What do you hear? The rustle of leaves, the distant chirp, the gentle hum of insects. What do you smell? The earthy scent after rain, the fragrance of blooming flowers, the crispness of a winter morning. What can you feel? The rough bark of a tree, the soft grass underfoot, the warmth of the sun or the coolness of a breeze. Even the taste of a fresh berry (if you know it's safe!) can be part of the experience. Find a "Sit Spot": Choose a regular spot outside, in your backyard, a local park, or even by a window overlooking trees. Visit it often, and just sit quietly. Observe how things change over minutes, hours, days, and seasons. You'll be amazed at the subtle shifts you start to pick up. Focus on the Small Details: It's easy to appreciate a grand mountain landscape, but the real magic often lies in the miniature. Look closely at a single leaf, the way water droplets cling to a blade of grass, or the tiny creatures busy in their world. This practice trains your eyes to see beauty everywhere. Embrace All Weather: As someone who loves spending time outside, especially in the #PNW, I've learned that every type of weather offers a unique opportunity for observation. The moody mist, the vibrant greens after a rain shower, or the crisp clarity of a sunny winter day all have their own charm and details to notice. Keep a Nature Journal: Jot down your observations, feelings, and discoveries. This isn't about artistic drawing (unless you want it to be!); it's about deepening your memory and connection to what you've noticed. What did you see, hear, or feel today? What surprised you? Practicing the art of noticing nature isn't just about appreciating the natural world; it's a powerful tool for mindfulness and reducing stress. It grounds you in the present moment and reminds you of the enduring beauty and cycles of life. This newfound appreciation has also fueled my #Wanderlust, making every new place I visit even more rich with discovery. It's a journey of #love for the world we inhabit, and it's a journey I highly recommend you embark on too. Start small, be patient, and let the wonders of nature unfold before you.
