Growing up, I've always felt that beauty standards shouldn't be confined to a single mold. Society often glorifies light or white skin, largely due to European beauty ideals being heavily promoted worldwide. But from my own reflections and experiences, dark skin holds a distinct and powerful beauty that shines in its uniqueness. What truly stands out to me is how dark skin, especially in women from various cultures, radiates an exotic and rich allure. There’s something magnetic about the way gold jewelry and bright clothing accentuate darker tones, creating a vivid and mesmerizing aesthetic that feels authentic and striking. It’s a contrast to the 'common' look often seen in mainstream media, which tends to favor lighter skin tones and a narrow range of features. My appreciation for dark beauty goes beyond aesthetics; it’s also about cultural pride and embracing heritage unapologetically. Rejecting colorism has allowed me to see beauty as diverse and multifaceted. By valuing dark skin above imposed standards, I feel a sense of empowerment and connection to a broader community that shares these values. While many people feel pressured to conform to societal norms, I find freedom in choosing what I appreciate without prejudice or bias. For example, my attraction to dark-skinned individuals—whether men or women—reflects my sincere admiration for the depth and richness that dark skin represents.
