In my House, we don’t believe in lying to our children by telling them a creepy man keeps watch over them putting them on a naughty or nice list then sneaks into the house while they are sleeping to leave them gifts. In other words, we don’t acknowledge Santa.
However, I have one daughter who does acknowledge Santa. (Long story short, I missed out on raising her and they raised her believing in Santa and when I got her back… I’m not gonna be the one that tells her Santa isn’t actually real but I also don’t tell her that he is.
During Christmas many participate in the good ole elf on the shelf tradition, us included. It’s fun! It’s interactive. And we don’t have a traditional elf on the shelf. We have an elf that looks different from the rest.
Now we told them we was sent this elf because this elf was bullied by all the others and our family is kind to all so this is the elf for our family because we will take good care of him. We also make this elf kind…. Idk if anyone’s heard of the kindness elves? Well our elf is a kindness elf and trouble elf all in one. He may get in trouble sometimes but he always leaves a note on kindness and what the act of kindness of the day is.
Now you may be wondering how we do this tradition, but we don’t do Santa…. We believe in magic. So we are witches and we believe in elves and gnomes and wizards and all of those things. So the idea isn’t lost upon us to have a magical elf. But we don’t say he came from the North Pole and we don’t write a letter from Santa.
