From personal experience, I’ve noticed that introducing religion as a compulsory part of school curricula can lead to feelings of exclusion and discomfort among students who come from diverse or non-religious backgrounds. When teachers insist on promoting specific religious practices, such as telling students to pray or to accept one set of beliefs as absolute truth, it crosses the boundary from education into indoctrination. In my own schooling, I observed peers feeling alienated when religion was enforced rather than taught as one of many cultural or historical viewpoints. Education thrives in environments that promote critical thinking and respect for diversity. When religion is taught in a neutral, informative way without pressure to adopt beliefs, students are better equipped to understand different perspectives without feeling coerced. Moreover, forcing religion in schools raises important questions about the separation of church and state. Public educational institutions should aim to provide inclusive environments that honor all students' rights, including freedom of belief. When religious promotion becomes a requirement, it can infringe on these rights and alienate learners. I believe that schools should focus on teaching ethics, values like empathy and respect, and cultural literacy without imposing religious doctrines. Encouraging open dialogue about religion as one part of human experience, rather than a mandatory practice, fosters understanding and acceptance. This approach helps students develop their own informed viewpoints in a supportive space. Overall, keeping religion out of the required curriculum while allowing optional, objective learning opportunities respects individual freedoms and promotes harmony among students with diverse backgrounds and beliefs.
