Body positivity

I am a supporter of body positivity but I think the movement has shifted in a way it wasn’t originally intended to go. As a plus sized girl I understand what it’s like to be looked at and treated differently just because of your weight. I want everyone to love the body they’re in and be proud of it. Where what makes you feel good and don’t care what others think. However, I do feel like there is a certain way to go about that. If I want to wear a mini skirt and a crop top then I will but as a plus sized girl I know that it’s not going to look the same as when a smaller woman does so there are things I would need to do to make it look tasteful on my body while still being the type of outfit I want to wear. I see so many people specifically plus sized women wearing things that yes they should wear if they want to but they’re doing it in a non tasteful manner. It’s not about what they’re wearing more of how they’re wearing it. They let the clothes wear them instead of styling it and making it accent their body. When people say something about the outfit the person wearing it takes offense and says something like “i love my body and i’m going to show it” when it was never about their body hit how they presented themselves. I’m not sure if this will make sense and i’m worried my words will be taken the wrong way but this is the best way I can phrase this.

Do you agree with me? Have you noticed what i’m talking about or do you think that’s what the movement was about? #GirlTalk #lemon8challenge #bodypositivity #selfcare #mentalhealth

... Read moreBody positivity began as a movement to challenge unrealistic beauty standards and promote self-love, acceptance, and mental health for all body types. However, as it has gained popularity, some aspects have shifted, leading to varied interpretations of what it means to truly embrace your body. For many plus-sized individuals, body positivity means more than just acceptance—it includes styling oneself in a way that highlights confidence and personal expression without compromising taste or comfort. Wearing a mini skirt and crop top, for example, can be empowering, but it's also about how these outfits are styled to accentuate one’s body shape beautifully rather than feeling overwhelmed by the clothes. This movement also faces criticism when certain fashion choices are perceived as less tasteful, not because of the body itself but due to the overall presentation. Understanding the balance between self-expression and styling can help people feel more comfortable and confident in their clothes, avoiding misunderstandings related to body positivity. Another important aspect is respecting others’ journeys. Some individuals openly share weight loss stories or fashion tips, which can sometimes attract mixed reactions. Body positivity should promote encouragement, not harassment or judgment. Everyone’s path to self-love and care is unique, and fostering a supportive community benefits mental health and self-esteem. Additionally, accessorizing and paying attention to styling details, such as makeup and posture, can enhance how clothing complements one's body. This approach doesn't diminish body positivity; rather, it embraces a holistic view of self-love that includes self-care and personal style. In conclusion, true body positivity is about loving who you are and expressing yourself authentically and tastefully. It encourages people to find what makes them feel good and confident while navigating societal expectations with grace. By sharing thoughts like these, the community can deepen understanding and promote positive, respectful conversations around body image and fashion.

As a plus size girlie I agree. I try to wear things that compliment my body shape. But on the other hand I don’t judge other girlies for what they want to wear. People should wear what they are comfortable in.

I think it can become confusing when it ignores health completely. True body positivity should include self respect, honesty, and caring for your wellbeing.
