Don’t need fake people

2025/2/7 Edited to

... Read moreHave you ever found yourself in situations where you just know some friendships aren't genuine? It's a tough realization, isn't it? For a long time, I struggled with the idea of letting go of people, even when I knew deep down they weren't good for me. But then I had an epiphany: life's too short for fake friends and endless gossip. I remember countless times being on the receiving end of whispers and judgment. People would say things like, 'She has no friends,' or 'She's so cocky for being a girl.' And honestly, for a while, it stung. But then I started to think, 'Damn right I am confident in who I am!' And if not having a huge circle of 'friends' means I don't hang with people that are fake, then I'm perfectly okay with that. It’s about choosing peace over popularity, authenticity over approval. So, how do you identify those fake friends, and more importantly, how do you deal with the inevitable gossip that often comes with them? It's not always easy, but here are a few things I've learned that might help you too: First, recognize the signs of fake friends. Do they only talk about themselves? Are they constantly gossiping about others to you, making you wonder what they say about you behind your back? Do they only show up when they need something, but disappear when you need support? True friends celebrate your successes, lift you up during failures, and don't engage in petty drama. If someone consistently drains your energy or makes you feel worse about yourself, that's a huge red flag. Second, set boundaries. You don't owe anyone your time or energy, especially if they are toxic. It could be as simple as limiting your interactions, or as drastic as a complete cut-off. It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to distance yourself from negativity. Remember, your mental well-being is non-negotiable. Third, deal with gossip head-on, or not at all. Sometimes, ignoring gossip is the most powerful move. People who gossip thrive on reactions. If you don't give them one, their power diminishes. Other times, if it's impacting your reputation or well-being, a calm, direct confrontation might be necessary. "I've heard you've been saying X; I'd appreciate it if you came to me directly with any concerns." But largely, I've found that people who truly know and care about you won't believe baseless rumors anyway. And for those who do? Well, as the saying goes, 'No one likes you' is often a reflection of their own struggles, not yours. Finally, focus on building genuine connections. Invest your time and energy into people who genuinely support and uplift you. Cultivate relationships based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding. These are the people who will be there through thick and thin, without the need for drama or pretense. Embracing your authentic self, even if it makes you seem 'cocky' to some, will attract the right kind of people into your life. It's about owning your worth and understanding that you are deserving of true, honest friendships.
