The sequel I needed!!! I’m officially in love with Story Lake and wish I lived there!! 😂
•Zoey, Hazel’s agent, is focused on getting Hazel’s book published so she can go back to New York. But since she was fired for representing Hazel and is losing money, she has to move to Story Lake temporarily. She’s been staying at the lodge, but Gage, Hazel’s single and attractive soon to be brother in law, has an apartment that he fixes up for Zoey. They couldn’t be more opposite, but everytime they see each other there’s chemistry there. Gage wants a wife, Zoey wants a fling. What will happen if they get together, for one night only?•
HOLY CRAP!!! I am officially obsessed with Lucy Score and Story Lake!! I love this book so much, it’s just as great and maybe even better than the first one (my opinion of course)!!! Zoey’s story just moved me so much!! I was crying and laughing throughout this read so much!! I loved Zoey and Hazel’s friendship, it reminded me of mine with best friend!! I loved how it picked up kind of where the last one left off!! I also loved Gage and how sweet and caring he was to Zoey, and even his family and how cool they were!! And of course I loved all the dogs and animals side characters!! This read is filled with friendship, family, love, and spice and I just couldn’t get enough!!! A 6 star read for me!! 💫💫💫💫
... Read moreOkay, so let's talk about the cover of Lucy Score's 'Mistakes Were Made' for a second, because I know that's often the first thing that catches our eye, right? And honestly, this one totally drew me in! The collage style is just so charming and perfectly hints at the cozy, yet exciting, vibe of Story Lake. You've got that rustic barn at sunset, which instantly transports you to a tranquil, small-town setting, hinting at Gage's more grounded life. Then there’s the serene lake, a constant backdrop to all the unfolding drama and romance. It really makes you feel like you’re right there, experiencing the peace and beauty of the town alongside Zoey.
But then, BAM! You also see elements like the cozy campfire and, surprisingly, those fun disco ball reflections! That combo perfectly encapsulates Zoey’s vibrant, city-girl energy clashing (or rather, beautifully blending) with Gage’s world. It’s that perfect visual metaphor for their 'opposites attract' chemistry that I absolutely adored in the book. And seriously, who can resist a fluffy white dog on a cover? It just screams heartwarming moments and adds to that irresistible charm that Lucy Score is so good at delivering.
For me, a great book cover is like the perfect movie poster – it sets the stage, gives you a peek into the world, and makes you desperate to dive in. This cover for 'Mistakes Were Made' does exactly that. It's not just pretty; it tells a story before you even open the first page. It promised me a blend of small-town charm, a little bit of sparkle, and a whole lot of romance, and let me tell you, the book delivered on every single promise!
Beyond the cover, what I love about Lucy Score's books, and this one is no exception, is her ability to create characters you genuinely root for. Zoey’s journey from a high-flying agent to someone finding unexpected comfort and love in Story Lake was so relatable. Her struggles with career, identity, and taking a chance on love felt incredibly real. And Gage? He’s the kind of book boyfriend you dream about – sweet, caring, and completely smitten. Their banter and the slow burn, then explosive, chemistry had me utterly hooked from start to finish.
The setting of Story Lake itself is almost a character. It's the kind of place you wish you could visit, filled with quirky residents, beautiful scenery, and a sense of community that wraps around you like a warm hug. It’s the perfect escape. This sequel really deepened my love for this fictional town and its inhabitants. The way Lucy Score weaves in themes of friendship (Zoey and Hazel's bond was everything!), family, and finding where you truly belong, all while serving up plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and heartfelt emotions, is just masterful.
If you're looking for a romance that makes you feel ALL the feels – from crying tears of joy to laughing uncontrollably, and yes, plenty of steamy spice – then 'Mistakes Were Made' is definitely one to add to your TBR. The cover might draw you in, but the story will keep you captivated long after you've turned the last page. It’s truly a 5-star read that I’ll be recommending to everyone!
